HoMe DeCoR 4- Ep 6 CoNtEmPoRaRy ElEgAnCe现代典雅风
Thank you all for your kind words with respect to last week’s episode:)
This week we are faced with contemporary elegance, which me thinks is pretty straight forward..
However, this time round the flat that we have gotten is a real challenge..First and foremost, the layout of the living room is pretty strange..In fact, it was almost impossible to place a sofa at the intended living room area.. well, a picture is worth a thousand words i suppose, so, lets take a look at the before pictures:)

The other dilema we had was that the space was really…long.

The built in cabinets did not really help and we were mighty pleased that the owner is fine with us hacking it away:)

The country styled wall paper…had to go as well..

To break the long piece of a wall, i decided to do wooden panellings with hiden back lights to be hung behind the tv console. This time round, we were extremely meticulous and paid great attention to all details and it turned out fabulously!

We decided to relocated the living area to the dining area and vice versa..thus, with a buffet table against the wall, we have to D>I>M our very own mirror nd that we did..with many squares of mirrors bonded to the wall:)

All our hard work paid off when finally..This was the final result!

we also D.I.M this long coffee table..which we were very much proud of:)

Another favourite corner of ours would be the dinning area…we simply adore it:)

And so our job is done..just to refresh your memory, here’s a never been done before, before and after side by side!
AFTER BEFORE
We are so ever pleased with our decor and even more so elated when we won! This had been a really memorable episode for us..
This time round our team went the extra mile and we were rewarded:)
Very pleased…
indeed:)
p.s : seems like lots of you guys are keen on d.I.M..so..to get the wood and woodskin, please go to Wellwin Tropical produce blk 1057 #01-85 Eunos Ave 3

Stunning! Love your wooden feature wall! Looking fwd to more of your works!!
on January 12th, 2010 at 10:50 pm
Hi Bryan,
I must say you have both ‘artistic’ mind & hands. You know which furniture to get once u lay & fix ur eyes on it. And u also create different DIYs continually for every episode.
And yes, the outcome is ‘no horse run’.
I like the color that u chose for the living room’s wall (behind the mirror collage). Can I ask u is the color ‘bisque’ from nippon or dulux?
on January 12th, 2010 at 11:00 pm
the wooden panellings is really eye-catching! the whole feel of the house is like a 5-star hotel! love the lamp and mirrors too. u sure have a way with mirror designs!
on January 12th, 2010 at 11:01 pm
Hi,
Great work on the various houses. My house is a complete toy-land right now – so my question is : where did all the toys go? And what are the chances of doing a program on my apartment?? – Big space for revamp and creativity… seriously.
Good work.
Salute.

Hi Bryan
After watching your creative ideas in changing the look of the house, it has make me want to do the same. Except I’ve problem to purchase plywood of my desire sizes for making display shelf/unit. Will you be able to let me know where can I do loose purchase of plywood and laminate material? I really appreciate if you can tell me so my house will look nice in this coming CNY. Thank you.
on January 13th, 2010 at 1:08 am
Hi Bryan
I am really impressed by your creativity and love the designs that you did every week!
I was blown away by the before & after transformation, it is amazing! This is one show that I will not miss every week! Believe it or not, I’ve never come across anyone as talented, creative & artistic as you! Your DIY skills is really good!
can ask u to come do my hse
My sis & I are staying in a simple 3 rm flat but due to budget constraint with no creative flair & know nothing about DIY, we have not attempted to do much for the flat..Unlike other flats, mine came with a high ceiling. This makes it an even harder task as we have absolutely no idea wat we can do, although we can see the potential of the hse if it is done up properly.. if u can cm, we know tat there wil be cost involved & wil gladly absorb them i.e. material, labour, ur time & expertise if it is within our means
looking forward to hear from u! thanks!

It seems that you like black lately cos you always choose black to furnish……
Although you faced a real challenge, you also fully utilised the space available. Good Job!!

Hi Bryan.
Congratulation! You won 3-0 and you deserve the win.
A plain HDB transformed into a hotel suites. You are very creative.
One thing about HDB’s architects – how could they design layout like that for a living room?
You DIY the wood panels and coffee table look just like those from furniture shops. Good job!
on January 13th, 2010 at 11:53 am

Bryan.
There is only one chinese word I will use to describe the decor works which you’ve produced for this episode —– 赞!!!!!!~~~~~
I really loooooooooooooooooooove the transformation which you’ve made to this HDB unit!! The before-and-after difference is extremely obvious. The HDB flat now really looks like either a hotel room or a condo unit! Perfectly fits the theme of Contemporary Elegance!
I am taking the photos as a reference for my future home if I do get married!
如果你真的开一间interior design consultancy firm,我认定我要你了!Hahaha..
你真的是个摆家天才leh!继续加油!

my sofa and dining table are black with white as base (for sofa) and 2 white chairs (other 4 are black). my tv console is dark brown (something like chestnut color).
i hope you can suggest to me on the color for the wall…i actually thinking of having the long wall in mocca delight; but my husband said it would be too risky coz we do not know whether it will look too dark and gloom…

Can I use laminated plywood? Is the result the same?
Actually, what is the dfiferent between the 2?
on January 17th, 2010 at 12:18 am
Hi Bryan,
I would like to know what kind of light bulbs were used for the TV Console Wall, behind the wooden panels?
Is it the ordinary fluorescent lighting, in a yellow shade ?
Thank you.

Hi Bryan,
Like your designs in every episode. We have gotten our new house keys and have a tight budget, therefore, we would like to, if possible, to DIY certain things on our own, like tv console, wondering, if we get the wood planks, how do we mount it to the wall?
If I want to particpate in the show, is it in time for these series of episodes?
Thanks
Dawn
