Home Decor 3 Ep 2 ” Ethnic Fusion”
In this second episode, the theme of design is ‘ Ethnic Fusion”. The shop that our team visited deals mainly in balinese and peranakan stuff and wats better then ethnic Peranakan fused with modern furniture! And so, we did:
This is how this five room flat originally is..rather filled to the brim with stuffs collected over the years..and so, we did our makeover!
Originally,the tv console was here, but we felt that the little window there is rather wasted, and so …
First and foremost, we did away the faded yellowish white the apt was originally dressed in and covered it in a soothing light cocoa colour on the L shaped wall and white on the others..where the v console was here before,We put the sofa here instead..with a little lamp( body in a cheong-sum)..and the little rays of light that filters thru the curtains provides enough light for some leisurely readings..
thats our sound man relaxing in the new sofa corner of the living room…
This dinning area has got a wall feature that houses some photo frames and also in natural wood colour.. we thought it looked a little bit dated and decided to add some modern touches to it..
And w e thought since the icon of peranakan culture is the phoneix, we decided to have one in the house..painted by moi sincerely…
and so, the new dinning area looked like this..
before, the entrance was rather cluttered, we decided to empty it and make it really welcoming…
All in all, i had a trully wonderful time with the participants of this episode..The family is really nice and wonderfully easy to work with. They fed us well and did what they could to help out… They are really cool…
However.. gosh, sometimes i really hated this word, our team….sadly.. lost once again…

no one likes to lost in any competition, but in this case, win or lose is only decided by 3 judges and sometimes we can’t help but wonder whether they do make really “professional” judgement cos either they give unconvincing comments, furthermore some are in fact ur “fellow competitors” in the ID industry ;p
so, don’t sigh even though u lost again… must believe in urself that u have already done ur best for the participants, and for the programme… just continue to go and enjoy each episode of the filming la!
in retrospect, did u realise how much u have grown in ur design/homestyling/painting skills? just look at the sizes and elaborateness of ur DIY pieces and paintings! goodness know what u will come up with next… a sculpture maybe? haha!

This episode just aired, and I stormed off after the announcement that mark had won. Both me, my mom, and my brother positively SCREAMED at the TV after the announcement. I’m so angry right now. Grr. You should have won- this and the first time round!!!
Don’t worry- its just some bad karma. I’m sure everyone else thought you should have won too (except those 2@#$%$^@$&^@%^&@ judges).
While I initially balked at the theme ( Ethnic Fusion right?) – I liked your style of combining modernity with the ethnic stuff- good painting!
I thought you nailed it this time round- confirm win- but who knew. :/ I REALLLLLLLYYYYYYYYYYYYYY hope you win next time!

Dun sigh… I have jus watch the EP 2. Yr design is much more nicer then the opp team. But just dunno y so called ” profession” judges just can’t really judge well… I believe those people who watch this show will see who should win this competition.

Is this the trend for the rest of the season ???? Are the judges going to blatantly announced that the other team as the winner despite the much superior design by you throughout the next few episodes ? If the answer is yes, I am going to boycott the show. After a hard and frustrating day at work, I wanted to relax by watching the show. I ended up even more frustrating because injustice happened in both real and reel world ! More kelong than a Taiwanese variety show !
The judges have less creditability than Alex Mun. If they cannot even choose the rightful winner, how can any customers trust their profession in designing. I got nothing against 李国煌but don’t treat audience as idiots.
I’m going to write to homedecor@mediacorp.com.sg to complain. 这个结果令人不安。

I truly enjoy watching Home Decor and I always look forward to your design. However, I am very frustrated to see you lose again. It’s so apparent that it’s a “setup”. Pardon me for saying so but I don’t find the design by your opponent exciting at all. In fact, to put it simply, it’s just mix and match pieces without proper coordination. Whereas I find your design well thought thr ough and nicely put together. The whole place looks simply fantastic.
I hope you won’t be discouraged by the lost because you do have many fans here who truly appreciate your talent and to us, you are the real winner! Forget about that three “stooges” or maybe two only, who do not care for talent but only TV ratings.
We the audience are the real judges and to us, you are simply the BEST! Keep up with the good work!

your design is fabulous, i love your arts drawing. U are really great in drawing, tis time, your design is nice. truely, i feel that the whole house is cosy, added with your design, it feels much more relaxation. u should have saw Mark’s side, the house he was given were too big, i feel that is too plain, i still support your design. so dont sad, u had already done your best. No matter what the outcome is, u are still the winner in front of the tv audience~

I watched the 1st & 2nd episode (I watched the 1st & 2nd series of HD) , you really did very well!! *thumbs up* Especially for those hard work you did (DIYs, painting, etc…) and I believe the owner will appreciate your hard work also!!! In the audiences’ eyes, they will know who deserve to be the winner (though Mark did his best too)!
No matter what, you will still have our support! We believe you will make it your way! Don’t give up ya! Don’t listen to those so-called ‘professional judges’, they may worry if one day you will snatch away their business… *grin grin*

i agree. this week, (and as always) it is obvious that yours was the better design, and was pretty shocked and frustrated when they announced your opponent the winner, who showcased minimum creativity since the first season in contrast to your different and creative work every week. i’m sure those two judges who chose to pick your opponent’s design are feeling bad because they know they’ve picked the wrong winner. for whatever reason, we don’t care, but its not justified. we the audience support you. keep producing those beautiful designs and make those two judges eat their words.

Hi Bryan,
I just want to praise you for doing so well in every episode. =) I really can see your effort.
After all, this show is not 100% about who’s the best designer but rather the process through it. It’s about how the contestants and others feel too.
I understand that given the state of winning will give you the sense of achievement, however, I still think that different people have different taste. You might lost in the 1st 2 episodes, but that doesn’t mean that no one likes your design. You did pretty well. So don’t be discourage k?
Just do your best and enjoy the process. There’s more excitement coming up! Jiayou!

I am a big fan of Home Decor, and i really don’t understand why you lost in the two episodes, seriously, anyone with eyes can see that your design is much more better than Mark’s. And he uses the same tricks in almost every episodes.
In the first episode, he pasted the squarish thing, second episode, he pasted the squarish thing again. In the first episode, he DIY the glass as lamp shade, in the third episode he did it again… Come on, is there any creativity???
This is clearly KELONG!!! Maybe Season 4 should be viewers’ choice… Hee… Then Mediacorp got reason to make $ again…

i really really like your design.. every pieces of furniture or whatever you choose you’ll explain so detailed.. every audience can see your hard work.. although Mark won, you’re indeed the real winner in a lot of people’s heart.. with this kind of unfair ‘control’ you shouldn’t mind the results.. cos it’s real obviously soo unfair(#$%^%$$%&^&($$)..
anyway jia you in your next episode.. enjoy your time with the house owners.. even if the results are not good.. at least you work hard with your own effort you won’t regret..

Yo man check this out
I really thought that your home decor designs were good but the design that Mark did was equally well received by the judges also, although you lost 1 – 2. These are my following thoughts that i hope will help you in your next epi:-
a) I really like what you did with the small tea cup candles, that really cooks up the atmosphere.
b) The phonenix was a good artistic drawning that adds to the theme of Peranakan feel to the whole house.
c) Personally, i didn’t like the dining table, it makes it too modernised with the glassy feel to it although the theme is ethic fusion.
d) I feel this time round, there weren’t any very bold things that you could have ventured into. I can’t really pen it down, but sticking to the basics are good but at times, maybe you should venture out and try something new with your ideas or out of the box. I thought that Mark’s idea was out of the box with the 3-D effect of the flower in the wall was something to make someone remember that piece for some time and at the same time bold enough.
I hope the above are constructive and help in your future epis as well….
I understand the feeling of letting them down (viewers, the epi family and fans) but its the process that one gathers is all that counts.

I watched the show and i gave my vote to you. I even told my sis (who is watching with me) that Bryan Wong will confirm win this time round. The other team things are a little off the theme and it was messy.
The paint you drew, the changing of the console and sofa location, and the words Lee Teng wrote on the mirror. . . I dun understand why you lost.
But . . . Dun lose confident of yourself. You are the best!

Hi, I’ve always prefer your design (and personality) to Mark Lee’s. I’m not a professional designed, and in my opinion, your design in this episode is cosy, neat and unique, especially the phoenix (not easy to paint!). But the overall feel somehow does not meet the expectation of Ethnic Fusion because I only see the fusion part and not the Ethnic feel…. the glass dining table was too plain, in my opinion. But fret not! The most important thing is how much support you have, and not how many times you win!

Hi Bryan,
I love watching Home Decor! I feel that this week your disciple has improved. He didn’t make any unwanted cold jokes and had initiative to make contributions.
Have faith in your design. A lot of people gave you positive feedback. I personally liked what you did in Ep 2 here. Probably there are some “inside” manipulation that we outsiders can only speculate, but you should know that there are lots of your supporters!
My mum said, your design is so good today, that even if she was the one who lost, she will fork out the money to buy back all the furniture that was chosen! Wow!
I personally like your design better out of the two (I feel that the other team has a trial & error attitude). It’s very nice and it’s suitable to be a showflat. Maybe that’s why you lost. It’s very classy, very stylish, but it lacks the homely feeling and feels very cold and isolated. Just my 3 cents’ worth. Hope it helps you in some way cos I want to see you win again!

frankly speaking, the furnitures Mark Lee chose was nice. however, if i were to say about the sense of “ethnic fusion”, i prefer yours. so dont worry ya, your design is still as perfect as always! =)

oh my god, the other 2 judges are soooo blind. In what way is the other design better than yours? So damn unfair to u and the contestents. Not biased view here, but as a viewer(who can see!), your design is way nicer than the other one. I thought this epi is a no-brainer, confirm u will be the winner. Love this show(I like to see the designs and makeovers + the fun), but hate the results. sigh sigh sigh.
Im not a fan of mediacorp’s productions btw…and i am not a fan of any artiste.
bryan, jiayou! You are definitely the true winner. If i were u, i will boycott being the show and being the compere(haha, that’s so un-pro of me, i know). Anyway, im just joking. I know this is your job and u must be a gracious loser too. But please ask mediacorp to choose judges who can see(let alone, judge), so that it will be fair not only to u, but the contestents. And also, the viewers.

i tink u’ve really come a long way from season 1 and 2 to having ur own ID company.. though i missed tonight’s episode, e pics look great! so cosy.. juz some views to share, i tink it is inevitable tt e judges haf somewhat higher expectations of u than mark, and it thus becomes harder and harder to come up with things tt wow them and blow them away.. dun give up, look for inspiration and i believe u can come up wif more new things!
I caught the first episode, and i muz say i really like ur design, but i can oso understand y mark won.. its due to e lights, which were really apt for the theme i thot.. i remember u said before tt when e judges first step into e house, there shud be sth tt immediately caught their eye and tts e foucs of e attention.. perhaps tt is somewhat lacking in ur first 2 episodes, there wasn’t a particularly strong thing tt left an impression..

well like i said, everyone’s got eyes to decide who’s better though some put it in a nicer way and say it’s subjective.
it sure is, which is why given a 2nd chance, ill still make the same choice! dont want some masking tape peeling, flowers drooping, dust gathering on some wooden log, bug-infested arty farty chair…you get what i mean.
to be fair, mark is right and he did say it’s not about winning or losing but the process that matters. he didnt decide who wins, who loses anyway – the judges did. so.
well, to us it’s really the fun & getting to know you (my mom adores you!) & having an entire makeover. it’s now so much more relaxing, cosy and we love it! i think that’s what’s more important. though yeah, got to pay for the stuff we love but at least we dont need to engage a designer, we get free paint and finally the chance to get my parents to move their lazy bums and do something about the house.
anyway, i dun even have any good pics of both before and after so can just give me a buzz with the pics? then i can send you the group pic too!

Hey bryan, I think that you did really well, especially when you took up the challenge to draw something that you thought was way beyond your ability ( but u managed to nail it, and boy was it STUNNING! )
I wouldn’t insult Mark’s design though, because I feel that both possess your own form of style!

Hi… Some true feelings from me personally aft watched the show. Like your drawing on the wall, ur design is smooth and calm. Mayb is because of the candles, the mirror to enlarge the area, wooden furniture and the type of sofa used, it’s something that I feel comfortable and I see the effort u put in if I want to compare with the other team. Juz feel that the Judges are sided more to the other team except Hanwei who really see the effort and details of it. I’m not professional and not that the other team’s design not nice but I juz like urs better and I see the effort put in. Juz hope the judges will see more into details. Jiayou! OK? (Personal feeling!)

I give you my vote of 1000000000%. It must be your production team had arrang this result. So dont trap with there way of game, people can see. The way they do this program is soon people will off there tv. I think they dont know how to subport there owm artiste. I never know of X artiste live well after they left the company. You might have forgotten me… I took part in Home Decor 1 Ep4 – Vintage Design with my friend, Krist who had a real fun time “disturbing” you throughout the whole game.
I personally feel that you & your team deserved to win on the latest Home Decor 3 Ep2 but too bad, wrong judges (except Han Wei)! Just like what happened to us during our time. We thought we were better but we lose to our competitor completely

Don’t be discouraged… I am sure majority of the viewers feel the same as I do… Maybe you are also in the interior design industry which invited some jealousy. If that really is the case, I feel sad but look at the bright side, who will approach the ones who made such a judgement for Home Decor 3, Ep 2?

But in Home Decor 3, i realised that your designs have been rather similar in a way. So probably thats why you lost out. But don’t give up

I truly enjoyed watching the 2nd epi than first one, because I see “homely warm” decoration this time.
Bryan, I think why you lost time is based on a few factors:
1) Typical 5-room decor contra with HDB show room. – I love to visit showrooms, especially hdb showroom, I realised your design is very “showroom” type. Very professional, well designed.
2)Mark’s designs have more surprises because he always tikam tikam one, he does not have the gift you have. If you ask him to design a 5-room hdb, he sure will not get the contract from hdb. Maybe because of his inabililty in this area, his designs caught the “professional” judges’ favour ya. He design by feeling, comfy, and of course with some basic knowledge of colour knowledge. Let not talk about his knowledge of knowing what interior design is.
3) You may give yourself a bit pressure “to win”, hence work under pressure certainly does not produce the result you want sometimes. Take it easy, let your CREATIVITY Flow Flow Flow….
Your disciple indeed shows improvement, both of you are working well on the screen. Two of you share the same charima – handsome, confident, and full of talents. You two are what we are looking for. As long as you two “xuang jian he bi”, sparkes and success will be on the way!
I destest “kia shu” people, what show the other pair no confidence upon themselves is they always use back the SAME tactics!!! same curtain design, same decor….you know why they ARE MORE AFRAID TO LOSE to you. Each time they win, they have to hit their chest “heng ah”. Certainly THEY KNEW YOUR STANDARD.
I support you! Who don’t want to win on screen? But inside my heart YOU ARE ALWAYS A WINNER!
You know? because both of you (you and your disciple)are handsome, good looking and talented, the not so good looking judges ARE JEALOUS!!! then they turned and support Mark lor. Look at Han Wei, he is so confident to support you. And YO! He is a designer too!!!!! Surely his vote is encouraging!

as wat HanWei said during the program, you have more DIY in your work, and everyone can see the effort you put in.
although you lost in both episodes, i still think you have a better design. really like your DIY painting and design.

Not winning doesnt mean that you are not good, every person has their own concept of thinking. He dnt disagrees with you design because he has his own way of thinking and liking. It is only one vote to make you lose, so dnt take too hard. Unless, you are lose by many votes.. I think you are good, dnt give up.

Read frm the ‘U’ magazine, because of the ‘节目效果’ they actually ‘requested’ the judges to let your opponent win the contest even though you are the one ’suppose to win’ it… Is that true??? If it’s true, I feel bad to you… You have put in effort in the contest but at the end, just because of the stupid ‘节目效果’ and you can’t get the fair judgement. Hopefully this is not true!!! Don’t give up ya! You always have us to support you from here!

This is the 1st time I view your blog. Watched the episode yesterday, you did really well. I love your DIY design especially your drawings. I drew cartoons on the walls at home too, well, just to save $$ in decor.
You have turned the house into such a cosy and relaxing place to rest. I was really impressed. You may have lost but don’t be disheartened. This show is not about winning and losing, what viewers want to see is the remarkable design that both you and Mark present. This show gives us ideas to decorate our home and save $$$.
Mark’s design was also beautifully presented yesterday. Both you and Mark have the talent for decor. Although, he did not deliver well during Part 1 but he had gradually improved. Actually, I don’t believe what U magazine had said. If it’s true, then this is not fair to Mark and viewers.
Bryan, I admire your talents. You are indeed remarkable and talented. Last but not least, wishing you success in your future endeavours. JIA YOU………..

Personally, i feel that there’s still room for improvement.
Eg. You chose peranakan. Perharps, you have to really go deep into the theme and have deeper understanding of peranakan. Because, i feel that, the designs that u had, are more of modernity rather than more ethnicity. What you did was nice, as a whole nicer looking at Mark’s but then, i think you didnt do quite well, in expressing the theme.
well, that’s my point of view. but,dont worry! there’s more espisode for you to win! =D

Actually i think Mark really deserves to win this ep and last ep..

Hmm… i felt that this week’s design is quite similar to last week’s. Meaning, you are too comfortable with a certain style, and sticks to it. Then, there will be no surprises.
Last week, I preferred Mark’s because of the green sofa.
This week, both are quite nice and hard to choose a winner. But I found that only your drawing is very colorful, while the rest of the room and the furnitures are gray and black.

After watching the photo, I have to admit I still like your design more than Mark. In fact your design most of the time take into considerations of the family’s need thus it always let me feel that you try your utmost most to match the theme yet at the same time make the place look like a home.. a real place for solace.. I agree over the past experience mark has gain more knowledge but I still think he lack the personal touch that can go deep down to the family that you are helping. Lastly , If i am the judge, I will throw a vote for you . Don’t let this lost dampen your spirit. You did your best and the family know that and that it enough. Wining doesnt necessary just end on that espiode. It leave the family the thought that they could bond together to do something for their family then just leave everything to the construction workers….

Hi Bryan, I think both you and Mark did a great job on the show !! I must say that you may have a headstart in Home Decor I, but Mark’s sense of creativity and art has improved since then. Perhaps you can think of ways to surprise the judges instead of using DIY drawing all the time. Sometimes I find that you are too “a perfectionist”, the more you want every corner to be perfect, the more you lose the overall picture. May the best man win !

I really like your design.. At first I thought the reason you lost in Episode 1 may be is because your design didn’t meet the theme, but after i watched the the Episode 2…there’s only one opinion i have, i.e. it is so UNFAIR!!! Obviously that your design is so much better than Mark (who only knows how to repeat the same design/thing that he used before ..and going to use again in the coming episode) but yet you still lost!! So so so Unfair!
But no matter how, please don’t give up and keep up the good work okie!!

I think the judges are too jealous with your talent (for both designing & DIY) that’s why they always make u lose to Mark Lee. Trying to kill your self-confidence indirectly larr. Sorry to Mark Lee, I got nothing against him but I just think you got better taste and you design better as well.
Please forward all our comments to your tv producer . If they are not going do anything by telling the stupid judges off about their FAIR decision, this tv show will definitely be suffered. We are not blind, silly nor stupid.

i think the essence since 1st series to the 3rd now – the viewers learn something. be it one is talented with flair or work hard to get the flair, ultimately one’s effort will be recognised.
your effort’s well recognised since the 1st series. it’s great showcase to the viewers what u are besides being an artiste. and most importantly, u bring out the better (& best) of your co-host – mark lee – as he got nurtured in the process to keep up with your talent.
jus keep remembering tt win/lose is only a thin line as the decision lies with the 3 professionals. they are engaged with recognition of their trade verdicts’. so lets not dwell on results all the time but enjoy the process like what you are doing. most of the time, i think u will only get affected (by not winning) when others around approached u to comfort. otherwise, i think u surely take the results as pinch of salt. look wat u hv done to the houses assigned.
both u and marklee have done a fab job. keep up the good work & enjoy the process like we do!

For Ep1, I do think that Guo Huang did have better design than your team, but you should be the winner for Ep2 as your design and DIY are so much better. Anyway, all the best and Jia You ! Also, May I know how do I join home decor 3 ?

I’ve watched this ep and wat can i say …
I was convinced that the opposite team won the 1st ep but
you should had won this ep as your design are much better than them
Their design really quite messy … bit of pieces here and there … espeically the tv console side …
But games are that …. so really hope you wouldn’t give up just the first few ep …
We will know who the best …

I’ve been watching Home Decor Survivor since Season 1!
I really feel your designs are great& all and you should rightfully win episode 1 and 2,
exp. episode 2.
Maybe It’s just a bias side, but I feel that some of the judges are abit bias toward Guo Huangs team. Sorry to say that.
But nonetheless, jiayou jiayou jiayou! You will rightfully win in the end!

Win or lose does not really matter. My family finds it really amazing with the transformation you can bring into the home. Your idea is incredible and guess your brain has managed to fill with all these creativity.
