My Maiden Show In China: SuZhou WuJiang

Over the years, i have been to various parts of China, either doing period dramas or travelogues or variety shows..never once did i actually took up the role of hosting in China’s production and this time, it happened. Not only did it happened..but..in a mega way too.

This is the Opening ceremony of the 2009 China WuJiang Investment and trade fair and Century NanShe, World Wujiang, a joint performance of the Asian Media comprising of China,Hong Kong,Taiwan,Korea and Singapore. Performing artistes includes Zhang Haozhe..Zhang Weijian..Fann Wong..etc.. For me,It was a night to remember, as the sheer walking of at least 30 metres across the stage just to deliver my lines is simply mind blowing! Also, the weather there was fantabulous..22 degrees during the day and about 17 in the evening:)

This time of the year spells the emergence of the hairy crab, a reknown delicacy to be found in this part of China and to give us the best of the best, we were brought to the Yangcheng lake’s 扬成湖LianHua isle 莲花岛, where the A grade hairy crabs are harvested!

To get to this isle, from mainland, you take this little boat taxi and speeds off across the tranquil lake at an alarming but joyful speed:)

Interestingly, there we found that you don’t catch the crab from the lake, instead, the climbed onto the nets themselves willingly, just to be feasted on by us humans:) Not that they know that this is their fate, but, twice a year, the crabs comes onto the land to hibernate..that explains why they leave the comfort of the water..and that’s why the nets are casted in such a way whereby once they surface, the harvesters simply row their boats out and pluck them from the nets.As simple as that:)

And yes..it is definitely yummy:)

This has been a real memorable trip…

though now a distant memory , i will always hold it dear to my heart:)
